Sri Lanka Visit Visa
If you're planning to visit Sri Lanka, you will need to apply for a visa unless you're from a visa-exempt country. The most common way to get a visa for Sri Lanka is through the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system. Here's a breakdown of the process:
Types of Visit Visas for Sri Lanka:
Tourist Visa (ETA): This is the most common visa for short visits for tourism purposes.
Transit Visa: For travelers passing through Sri Lanka to another destination.
Business Visa: For those visiting for business meetings, conferences, or events.
On-Arrival Visa: Some nationalities may be able to get a visa on arrival, but it’s best to apply in advance through the ETA system for smoother entry.
Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA):
The ETA is an online visa system that allows you to get approval for entry into Sri Lanka before you travel.
Steps to Apply for the ETA: (Click here for online apply)
Eligibility: Most nationalities are eligible for an ETA, but there are some exceptions. You can check if your country is eligible on the official Sri Lanka ETA website.
Documents Required:
A valid passport (with at least 6 months' validity from the date of arrival).
A valid email address to receive updates and approval.
A credit/debit card or PayPal account to pay the visa fee.
Application Process:
Visit the official Sri Lanka ETA website.
Complete the online application form by providing details such as your passport information, travel dates, and travel plans.
Pay the visa fee (approximately USD 35-40 for a tourist visa).
Submit the application and wait for approval, which typically takes around 24-72 hours. In some cases, it can be instant.
Approval:
After approval, you will receive an ETA confirmation via email.
Print the confirmation or have it on your phone to show upon arrival in Sri Lanka.
Validity:
The tourist ETA is usually valid for 30 days and can be extended once you are in Sri Lanka for another 30 days, making it a total of 60 days.
You can apply for an ETA for a multiple-entry visa if you plan to enter and exit Sri Lanka multiple times during your stay.
Visa on Arrival:
In some cases, travelers can apply for a visa on arrival at the airport. However, this process may be slower and more complicated than applying for the ETA in advance. It’s recommended to apply for the ETA to save time.
Additional Notes:
The ETA is valid for tourism, business, or transit purposes.
For longer stays or specific purposes (such as employment or studying), a different visa type may be required.
